Review: KingBank KP260-2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4*4 SSD

Manufacturers of NAND flash memory and controller for SSDs are emerging, which have rendered a round of price drop of these storage devices. Today I have KingBank KP260-2TB M.2 PCIe Gen4*4 SSD to give it a go.

KingBank is an emerging Chinese brand in the SSD market, and the hit KP260-2TB is the latest trending budget choice for a powerful upgrade. Featuring affordability, let’s test out the performance of this huge-capacity solid-state drive.

Wrapped in a neat package, KingBank KP260 is rich in the inside. Unbox it and we can see a metal heatsink, a heat spreader label, a user manual, two rubber rings and some fixing screws.

Without a already installed heatsink, we can see the structure of the SSD directly. So here we can see the main controller lined neatly with four NAND flash memory chips on a single side, each of 500GB in capacity, totaling a 2TB capacity.

Lining the chips on a single side makes it slim to hold, which also renders it widely applicable to such devices as ultrathin laptops and notebooks. SSDs of dual-side chips may fail these slim devices instead.

Configuration


If storage capacity is one key point to value a solid-state drive, speed will be another one. For SSDs with the same capacity, the faster the speed goes, the better. With iterative processors and other computer hardware all striking faster data processing, SSDs can’t take the risk of being the weak link here, so hard disks with a massive storage capacity and a lightning read/write speed will be the perfect choice to level up your device.

Zoom in and we can see that KingBank KP260 SSD takes Maxio MAP1602A as the controller, which is a 12nm PCIe 4.0 DRAM-less chip, supporting up to 2400MT/s. This PCIe 4.0 interface of NVMe 1.4 standard renders the SSD more efficient with lower power consumption.

KingBank KP260 SSD uses 3D TLC NAND Flash memory from YMTC (Yangtze Memory Technologies Co., Ltd.), a thriving brand from China. This flash memory solution takes the second generation of X-Tacking technology, working stably at 1600MT/s, with each chip of 512GB.


Testing



Installing the heatsink is quite easy. Connecting the heatsink with the SSD with the spreader label or enhance the connection through the rubber rings.



Better heat dissipation will render more stability to the system operation.



Or you can use the heatsink that the motherboard attached for the SSD, which goes easy with the device.



Here I used Intel Core i9-13900K CPU, matching with DDR5-5200 64GB memory kit and GIGABYTE B760M motherboard which has two M.2 slots for PCIe 4.0x4.



I installed the KingBank KP260 on the M.2 slot near the CPU with its own heatsink.



In CrystalDiskMark, KingBank KP260 SSD is measured a peak read speed at 4789MB/s, and a write speed at 4456MB/s, just as advertised.



With TxBENCH, the speeds measured go even higher than the advertised values to strike an even more excellent performance.



In AS SSD Benchmark, since the read/write speeds are measured with a different logic, the numbers appear to be lower. But the 4K read/write speeds are of great reference, especially when the SSD is used as a system disk.



Then check the benchmarking in ATTO, a max read speed stays at 4520MB/s and a max write speed at 4160MB/s.



When handling some 100GB files, KingBank KP260 is measured a read speed averaged at 5500MB/s, and a write speed at 5390MB/s, which is rather stable in handling a massive load of files.



After writing in 1084GB of files, the SSD is still at a 100% healthy status. According to the advertised 1200TBW, that equals a use for our entire life. Plus, KingBank SSDs enjoy a 3-year warranty, which is secure enough for use.
